Standoff at Wheat Ridge King Soopers gas station ends peacefully

WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. -- A suspect wanted on an assault warrant was taken into custody after a standoff at a King Soopers gas station early Monday morning, the Wheat Ridge Police Department said.

It started about 4 a.m. after police stopped a Ford Edge at the gas station at West 38th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard.

One person in the vehicle got out, but the man wanted on the warrant reportedly had a gun and refused to get out.

Several law enforcement officers were called in to help resolve the situation. Guns were drawn and about 5 a.m., the man got out of the vehicle and was taken into custody without incident, police said.

Roads in the area were shut down during the standoff but later reopened. No injuries were reported.
