GOLDEN, Colo. -- Drivers using Sixth Avenue can expect another round of delays and backups Thursday.
The Colorado Department of Transportation is shutting down most of the highway for emergency bridge repairs.
Crews are working to fix the Interstate 70 bridge over Sixth Avenue that was hit by a truck carrying a crane Sunday night.
CDOT said the bridge suffered significant damage when it was it and the only way to make the proper repairs is to shut down Sixth Avenue and just let traffic get by on the shoulder.
All of eastbound Interstate 70 on the bridge and all of Sixth Avenue had to be shut down Sunday night into Monday. CDOT said the trucking company hauling the crane is to blame.
"The problem we do have is people making sure they have appropriate restrictions going through our infrastructure," CDOT spokeswoman Emily Wilfong said.
CDOT said taxpayers will not get the bill for the repair. They are sending the bill to the trucking company that caused the damage.
