Chris Tomer

Meteorologist

Meteorologist Chris Tomer forecasts weather for FOX-31 News and Colorado's Own Channel 2 in Denver. You can watch Tomer Monday-Friday on Channel 2's Daybreak morning show from 5am-9am and at 10am on FOX-31's Everyday show.

Tomer earned a B.S. in Meteorology from Valparaiso University graduating with Honors - where he also played basketball. Tomer is a fully certified meteorologist having earned the CBM and NWA Seal's of Approval.

Tomer is a trail runner, mountaineer, mountain guide, mountain biker, snow skier, and photographer. Chris completed climbing all 55 of Colorado's 14ers in 2009 including the four major 14er Traverses. Many of Chris's adventures are showcased on KDVR/KWGN-TV including high definition video from Capitol Peak, the Maroon Bells, and winter ascents of Mt. Democrat and Mt. Elbert. Three of Tomer's news specials earned Emmy-Award nominations including, "Tomer's Trails: Capitol Peak 14er".

Tomer is a bestselling author. Together with his best friend and mountain climbing buddy Dr. Jon Kedrowski, they wrote Sleeping on the Summits: Colorado Fourteener High Bivys. The book chronicles their never-done-before project: They slept on the summit of all 55 Colorado 14ers from sunset to sunrise in 95 days. Tomer has also published peer-reviewed meteorology articles in science journals.

Tomer is also a private consulting meteorologist specializing in mountain weather forecasting. In 2012, Chris provided detailed weather forecasts for Dan Mazurs' Summit Climb Expedition on Mount Everest. His forecasts helped the expedition including Dr. Jon Kedrowski to successfully reach the coveted summit in "dead-calm winds". Tomer tailors his forecasts to mountains around the world, from Colorado's 14ers to Mount Everest. His forecasts were one of the keys to the success of the groundbreaking Sleeping on the Summits project. Chris's track record is impeccable.

Tomer hosts and visits classrooms across the Front Range teaching young kids about weather, television, and mountain safety. Tomer is a sought-after speaker having delivered key-note addresses, college workshops, "Mountain Meteorology" presentations at every REI store across the Front Range, corporate weather strategy, and motivational talks.
